Basic Rules

The most exciting way to play Blackjack!

Knowing how to play Super Fun 21 includes understanding the rules for players and dealers.

  • The goal of the game is to beat the dealer by having a higher point total than the dealer without “busting”.
  • The dealer does not make decisions. He/she will stand on a hard 17 and always hit on a soft 17.
  • Each player and the dealer are dealt two cards. The dealer always receives one card face-up and one card face-down.
  • Scoring is based on a point total based on the card’s ranks.
  • Cards are worth their face value, except for Aces and face cards. Aces are worth one OR eleven, while all face cards count as ten. Hands with an Ace in them are called “soft” hands. Hands without an Ace or cards where an Ace MUST be counted “one” to avoid going bust are called “hard” hands.
  • When you receive a total of 21 on your original two cards (Ace and 10 value card) it is considered a Blackjack.
  • Player Blackjacks are guaranteed winners.
    • Diamond Blackjacks pay 2-to-1.
    • Non-Diamond Blackjacks pay even-money.
  • A winning hand pays even money, a losing hand results in a loss for the player.
  • Any hand totaling 20 or less with 6 or more cards pays even-money instantly. No instant winners or bonuses on double-down hands.
  • Any hand totaling 21 with 5 or more cards pays 2-to-1 instantly. No instant winners or bonuses on double-down hands.
  • A player may double down (for full amount only) on 2 or more cards, even after hitting or splitting including Aces.
  • A player may split equal-valued cards, including Aces, 3 times making up to 4 hands.
  • A player may surrender one-half of his/her bet on 2 or more cards totaling less than 21, even after hitting, doubling, or splitting including Aces. A player may not surrender if dealer has Blackjack.
  • Do not use electronic devices at the table (i.e., mobile phones, handheld communication devices and iPods).
  • Keep your purse or wallet on your lap, chair or in the players’ area (not on the table).
  • The dealer may give you a knuckle tap, but may not shake your hand.

Hand Signals, Common Terms and Players’ Options

Almost all Super Fun 21 decisions are communicated to the dealer via hand signals.

  • Hitting – You would like another card. Just point to your cards, tap the table or scratch the table near your cards.
  • Standing – You do not want any more cards. Just wave your hand parallel to the table over your card.
  • Doubling Down – You may place an extra bet (for the same amount as your original wager) on two or more cards, even after a split, then receive only one more card.
  • Splitting – You may “split” two cards of the same face value into two separate hands. Just place the same amount as the original wager next to the original and say “splitting”.
  • Insurance – This is a side bet that the dealer has a Blackjack; payout is 2:1. The dealer will offer insurance when he/she has an Ace up. You may wager up to 1/2 of your original bet.
  • Surrender – If you don’t like your hand, you may draw a line with your finger behind your bet and say, “Surrender” The dealer will then collect 1/2 your bet and collect your cards.
  • Bust/Busting Out – Any point total of the cards that exceeds 21. This is an automatic loss.
  • Push – A tie between the dealer and the player (the player gets their wager back). The dealer will tap next to your wager.
